´╗┐A Note from the Principal

Hurricane Aftermath

Dear Families,

Wow! What an interesting month September has been! Hurricane Irma certainly changed things. From make-up hours to Family Weekend, there is much to report!

We are still in the process of recovering from the hurricanes, but for the most part we are back to normal. We were very blessed to all be safe and sound, however we had to miss a significant amount of academic hours, which must be recovered. We've developed a plan to make up that time, with the least amount of impact to your holiday schedules. The plan is outlined here.

Our students have been very busy on campus and in the community. Mrs. Moore's classes wrote thank you notes to the power companies, after their hard work following the storms; and some of the other students helped clean up yards within the community.Upcoming Community Service

Opportunities include:
  • Lake Wales Lake Clean up on Sundays
  • Adopt a Grandparent starts Monday
  • Bok Tower Set up October 20-21

Family Weekend

After surveying you about Family Weekend, we received the following results.

´╗┐Therefore, in an effort to accommodate everyone, yet listen to the majority, we are going to change our major family weekend until the spring. However, for the ones of you who have already made travel plans, we will continue with parent teacher conferences and visits over the weekend of the 13-16th. You are still welcome to join your student in his/her classes, as well as meet with teachers. We will use the 16th for make-up time from the hurricanes, but for those who have answered on the survey that you plan to attend, your student will still be excused while you continue your time with your family on the 16th.

Around Campus

Our college success students began their class at Polk State last week. They are working diligently, as are all our dual enrollment students. We are so proud of their hard work.

Middle School science classes were learning about gravity, force, and motion.

Mr. Ed and Ms. Ruby's classes learned about meteorology last week, and this week they learned about Hispanic Heritage, as well as studied the Vikings in history.
