Happy Friday! It has been another productive week around the Vanguard School, and we've even experienced some cooler weather here in central Florida. With that in mind, please remember the dress code. Students are only allowed to wear Vanguard hoodies or jackets at school. Due to the cooler weather, our seniors raised funds this week through their hot chocolate sales, which is a great way for them to raise money for their trips and senior gift. Some of our students went this week to take the PERT test for college dual enrollment, and they did very well. We may have twelve of our students in dual enrollment next term! Today some of our dual enrollment students, who do not have Friday classes, went to volunteer with Mrs. Rogers at Garden Grove Elementary School. They were helping out with their Fall Festival, and they were wonderful examples for the Vanguard School. In Middle School, the students were doing a cross-curricular lesson on the bones of the body, in science and studied Dia De Los Muertos in Social Studies to compare it and Halloween- analyzing cultural differences and similarities. They sampled Pan de Muertos, one of the many gifts eaten and brought to the graves of deceased loved ones to honor their memory, as well made paper models of the skeletal system. In art classes, our students are preparing for Veteran's day with some crafts and decorations.

Hurricane Make Up Session 2

Don't forget next week is our second session of make-up time from Hurricane Irma. Students will be meeting between 5-6 Monday through Thursday to make up time from English classes. Any students absent for any reason will not receive credit for the make up days. This time is necessary in order to fulfill our requirements for the State of Florida's instructional days requirement.

Student of the Week

Please congratulate our student of the week this week, Susan Chen. Susan is being recognized for her helpfulness, friendliness, attitude, diligence, and excellence. It is said Susan goes out of her way to help others, to be positive, and to smile! Susan is an eighth grader who is an accomplished golfer and a member of our basketball and volleyball teams. Thank you, Susan, for being such a great member of the Vanguard family!

Halloween

This week the Vanguard Campus celebrated Halloween. Students were able to participate in a fundraiser for Puerto Rico Hurricane victims, by paying $5 to wear their Halloween costumes to school, or to purchase Boo Grams for their friends. In all, they made $383 to send to the families in need.

As is Vanguard Tradition, the residential staff held events like the pumpkin carving contest and cookie and cupcake making.  Mrs. Marsh took the students in the Adopt a Grandparent program on a special visit to the nursing home.
