A Note from the Principal

Native American Heritage Month

November was Native American Heritage Month, and we were able to have a special assembly to celebrate our students who are members of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. The Seminole students prepared a presentation about their culture, and they even made a cultural dish, frybread, to share with all the students. Brandon Frank's parents joined the group to hep with the presentation and cooking, and the students invited  a representative of the Seminole Tribe, Herbert Jim to share more about the Seminole Culture. It was a wonderful opportunity for the Vanguard School to learn more about our Seminole students and the rich history they add to our school. The student body was well-behaved and respectful, and they asked a lot of very good questions.

Literature Classes

In contemporary literature class, students finished up their multi-genre projects in response to Unwind, a novel by Neal Shusterman. The students created four genre pieces illustrating character analysis, theme, setting, and conflict. They were free to use their own creativity to express these literary themes and their knowledge of the book.

College Visit
Yesterday a group of seniors went to visit Southeastern University in Lakeland. The students were able to tour the beautifully growing campus and eat and the restaurant. They were very impressed with all the facilities.
Mrs. Rogers does an excellent job trying to expose our seniors to a wide variety of colleges and universities, in order to give them as many options as possible for their educational futures.
