Student Life at Vanguard School

Students at Vanguard enjoy a wide variety of options for sports, clubs, and activities. There is always something to do, and something for everyone. We strive to ensure that each student receives not only a quality education, but also important social interaction time.

What is life like for a Vanguard Student?

In the mornings, from 7:45-8:25 a.m., breakfast is served. Students are awoken by residential staff prior to this to ensure that they make it on time to class.

At 8:30 a.m., classes officially begin. Class is in session from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

There are two breaks throughout the day. One in the morning at 10:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and one in the afternoon at 2:10 p.m. to 2:25 p.m.

Every student is assigned both an academic mentor and a residential mentor. Academic mentoring is at 12:45 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Lunch is from 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. and dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

After classes, students are encouraged to participate in three extracurricular activities after school. This can be a club, athletic team, or group event. This is to foster social skills and a more active lifestyle.

Students are encouraged to join in on community service programs and to practice everyday life skills with residential staff. This can include things like cooking, cleaning, personal hygiene, socialization, time management, money management, and assimilation within peer group.

All students have access to a full-sized gymnasium, recreation-game room, performing arts center, fitness center, three lighted tennis courts, lighted soccer field, library/media center, swimming pool, fishing dock, classrooms used for clubs and meetings, and approximately 76 acres of land, bordering a small lake.

Vanguard has a wide array of offered sports. For more information on all our athletics, please click here.

As a boarding school, we want to make our students feel as comfortable as possible. The Vanguard School is quite literally, their home away from home. This is why both the boys' and girls' dorms have been remodeled. Our Junior Olympic-sized pool was renovated in the summer of 2018 and is open during the warmer months. Different activities are offered at the campus, such as: movies, Driver's Ed, contests, grocery shopping trips, beach trips, water parks, and the like. There is always something going on at Vanguard. We think our students deserve the best and we work to accommodate them.

Will there be activities to do on campus?

As previously stated, there is always something happening on The Vanguard School's campus. This can be contests, holiday parties, athletic meets, open gym, movies, chess club, gaming club, billiards, youth group, Shakespeare club, and ladies fitness. We aim to take students from their rooms and get them interacting and having fun with one another. Assimilation with peers is a pertinent aspect at Vanguard. Therefore, we always maintain a very dynamic and active environment to better foster this.

What are prepaid trips?

The Activity Department of the Vanguard School offers several trips/activities for students on a prepaid basis.
