Since 1960, The Vanguard School has been guided by a simple but powerful belief. Students with learning differences deserve to be understood, supported, and given every opportunity to succeed. Founded by Dr. Milton Brutten and Dr. Henry Evans, Vanguard was among the first schools in the country dedicated to identifying and serving students with learning disabilities.

From our early roots in Pennsylvania to the growth of our Lake Wales campus, Vanguard has continued to evolve through expanded programs, accreditation milestones, and a strong residential and academic community. Through growth, renovation, and even natural disasters, our mission has remained constant. We meet students where they are and help them discover their strengths.

As we mark 60 years, we celebrate the students, families, educators, and alumni who have shaped this legacy!
